Supported Living provides an environment allowing individuals with developmental disabilities to learn skills necessary for greater independence while living in the community. We provide training and support in the areas of meal planning and preparation, apartment maintenance, laundry, personal care, health and safety, financial management, and other essential daily living skills. Supported Living also organizes field trips to nearby locations like Branson and area lakes as well as Special Olympics meets. Farther flung destinations have included Disney World, Hawaii and Mexico.
Located at the Sycamore campus, this training program focuses on life skill training using a "phase system" that encourages individuals to progress at their own pace from a structured and supportive environment to their chosen level of independence. Individuals who select this program train in areas like meal planning and preparation, budgeting, apartment maintenance, personal hygiene, health and safety, decision making and social skills. We also offer citizenship and leadership training that promotes increase self-esteem and greater community involvement. Rent at our Sycamore location includes rental assistance for individuals that qualify based upon their income.
Community Living Services include services and support provided to individuals who live in their own homes and apartments in the community. Individuals living in one of Life Styles duplex neighborhoods may have some shared staff and participate in training opportunities on site. Support ranges from a few hours each week to full time support.
Regardless of where an individual lives, services and supports are available that are designed to help each person have the experiences and opportunities necessary to reach their personal life goals. Services may be provided for as few as a few hours each week or up to 24 hours a day and may take place in the individual's home, at one of Life Styles' facilities, or in the community. Direct support professionals partner with individuals to provide daily life skill training, community integration activities, transportation and in-home support. Individuals served are involved in their communities, work at jobs, volunteer their time, attend activities and churches of their choice, and participate in all aspects of community life.
Life Styles owns and provides supported living services at three properties in Fayetteville and manages a residential home in Rogers. However, the vast majority of individuals served in this program live in homes and apartments they rent in the communities of Washington and Benton Counties. Section 8 Rental Assistance is offered through the Housing Authority in each city. Qualifying individuals will have a portion of their rent paid by the Housing Authority. The amount paid depends on each individual's income. To apply for local Rental Assistance in Fayetteville, call the Fayetteville Housing Authority number at (479) 521-3850. The office is located on West Street in the Hillcrest Towers building. There are certain hours that applications can be picked up and returned, so we advise calling beforehand for information. Once the application is completed and an individual is placed on the waiting list, Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) can be requested through our Accounting Department. TBRA can be used for up to two years while waiting for Fayetteville Housing Assistance.
