High School Transition Program

Life Styles' High School Transition Program is a cooperative effort of Life Styles, Fayetteville High School, local area businesses and the Arkansas Department of Education, as a part of the School to Work program. The Transition Program provides students with developmental disabilities the opportunity to gain actual work experience in the community.

An on-site job trainer teaches the skills necessary to perform a job. Attention is also given to broader job requirements such as productivity, initiative and following directions. There is also a focus on appropriate social skills in the workplace: customer service, interaction with co-workers and supervisors, communication skills and appropriate dress and grooming. Students have the opportunity to practice the job interviewing process and are shown how to relate the skills they have learned to other job opportunities. The program provides a wonderful opportunity to promote community integration as students learn to work with co-workers, employers, and the public. They, in turn, gain experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
